‘Swedspan Giriu Bizonas' Helps Forests of Prienai Recover After Storms

The employees of ‘Swedspan Giriu Bizonas', jointly with suppliers and representatives of forestry departments, planted saplings in the Forestry Department of Prienai on 13 May. Although the weather forecast was to derange their brilliant plans, nature was benevolent – the rain came pouring down only after all planting activities had been completed.

It has been three years in a row since the employees of ‘Swedspan Giriu Bizonas' started planting trees in different forestry departments all around Lithuania. Two years ago the company's attention was focused on the Forestry Department of Druskininkai while last year on that of Alytus. Joint activities were launched in the forests of Prienai this spring.

A group of about forty people at the Forestry Department of Prienai with great interest listened a story about current situation at the local forests. The forests have not recovered completely after storms last year, forestry official told.

Later, the guests in the Forestry Department of Prienai went to a specially designated half-hectare area to plant oak and fir trees. As many as 3 000 saplings were planted – 1 500 oak trees and the same amount of fir-trees! To make the work go smoothly, the forestry officer was in charge of all activities, and he demonstrated how to plant saplings properly and helped those who found it difficult to follow his instructions at one stroke.

After planting oak and fir saplings, before the outbreak of rain, there was still some time for visiting a special place – the largest larch-wood in Lithuania, with a larch-tree as high as 46 metres, located in the forests of Prienai.
