Environment Impact Assessment Programme of the bio-plant is approved

All responsible institutions approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme of Swedspan Girių Bizonas for building and exploitation of the bio-plant. On Monday the favourable decision was made by the Environmental Protection Department of the Region of Marijampolė (EPDR of Marijampolė) of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, and the action completed the first stage of the process.

EIA programme was publicly introduced to society: anyone, who was interested in Swedspan Girių Bizonas plans, could receive information and state questions concerning the programme; and then the document was analysed by the EIA subjects (Kazlų Rūda Municipality Administration, Marijampolė Territorial Division of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Marijampolė Public Health Centre and Marijampolė Fire Prevention and Rescue Service). After the assessment of these institutions, alongside with their conclusions and recommendations, the programme was submitted to the Marijampolė EPD, by which it was analyzed and approved.

Now Swedspan Girių Bizonas can move to the next step, which is the implementation of the programme, i.e. the environmental impact assessment. On completion of the assessment, a report will be drawn up, introduced to the public and also coordinated with the EIA subjects. The latter shall provide a conclusion, and after that the report will be submitted to the EPDR of Marijampolė, which will make a decision on the permissibility of the planned activities of the company in the selected area.
