Production is running up after an annual preventive stop
The stability of the production of Swedspan Girių Bizonas depends upon the equipment reliability. In order to achieve smooth and safe process of production, the production is stopped once a year for the inspection and repair of the facilities.
The production is stopped during each financial year and it lasts from two weeks to one month. Today, on 24 October, the plant has started its ordinary works, that, however, became faster and better, after a two week's pause. The works were performed in the whole territory of the company, both on the inside and on the outside of the company. All the staff of the company and more than 100 contractors were working there.
Rimantas Macijauskas, the Maintenece Manager, who has recently got an award of the best co-worker of the year in the Swedspan company group, is talking about the activities during the last stop.
What kind of activity was performed when the production was stopped?
A lot was done during the stop. The worn out pipelines of the dryer system were changed; burner's fuel feed system was improved; wet electrostatic filter was thoroughly cleaned and its worn out details changed. A lot of attention was paid to the transportation systems. In order to reduce the resin usage, resin mixing and forming machines were upgraded. The press – hart of the plant was adjusted.
This time we have also paid a special attention to fire-fighting protection, we have additionally installed one more system of registry and extinguishing of sparks in sorting.
How does it differ from the earlier one?
This fire-fighting system is better because it provides additional security by detecting not only the sparks but also hot bodies.
How do you decide what works must be performed during the annual stop?
We analyze downtimes: if the same failure appears many times for the same equipment, it means that something must be changed or repaired. We constantly communicate with the suppliers of our equipment and share our experience with other Swedspan companies. We are analysing situation and identify improvements. Some works can be performed during the preventive stops lasting one day. More serious and time consuming works to be done are left for the annual stop.
We constantly observe and analyze the situation as it may change very quickly and, accordingly, we need to make the most recent conclusions.
