Kazlų Rūda, 11/11/2011

On November 11 this year, particle board manufacturer UAB Swedspan Girių Bizonas, part of the IKEA group, announced an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report on the new biofuel capacity plant drawn up by UAB Sweco Lietuva.

In comment on the EIA report, the managing director of Swedspan Girių Bizonas, Regina Zasienė, highlighted that "the comprehensive environmental impact assessment and the report is a big step towards our investment, cost-effectiveness and environmental targets." The biofuel boiler plant will allow the company to switch from fossil fuels gas to biofuels and become CO2 neutral, she noted. "We are positive it will increase the company's competitiveness and we expect the use of our production in the heating system of the Kazlų Rūda town," the managing director said.

Legislation on target economic activities requires the organiser to carry out the environmental impact assessment programme of a target economic activity and compile a report on the environmental impact. The organiser is also required to present the final documents in public and submit them to the authorities responsible for approval.

Residents will be able to familiarise themselves with the programme in the offices of Swedspan Girių Bizonas and Sweco Lietuva, as well as in the Kazlų Rūda Municipality.

The document would be also available on the company's website www.swedspan.lt.
